Academy Policies
General Studio Expectations:
Our vision is for the Central Oklahoma Dance Academy to be a safe place to develop artistic, technical, and creative excellence. Please refrain from aggressive or degrading behavior and from words or actions non-conducive to learning. We appreciate your active participation in making this a school where all students are shown dignity.
HELPING YOUR CHILD GET THE MOST OUT OF THEIR BALLET LESSONS
Make sure your child arrives ten minutes prior to the start of his/her class, and that he/she attends all scheduled classes.
Make sure your child is properly attired, including hair and jewelry requirements; that they have used the restroom prior to class; and that they aren’t hungry or thirsty before class begins.
Encourage your child to practice at home. A student who retains material from week to week is more confident and enjoys the dance experience more.
Talk with your child about what they learned in class; encourage them to show you anything new they were taught or share the concepts discussed in class that day.
Show respect for your child’s dance teacher, especially when it comes to discipline. Feel free to call the school for a meeting any time you have a question concerning discipline.
Avoid judgmental statements concerning other parents and students at the school.
Be proud to be a non-gossiping parent. Spreading gossip is a negative influence on productivity both in and out of the classroom.
Promptness with tuition, costume payments, and other funds is essential.
Encourage your child and express your pride in their efforts and accomplishments.
MIND YOUR MANNERS
Etiquette for Ballet Class
Be respectful of the instructor and the other students at all times, both in and out of class. Bullying and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
Be on time and prepared for class. Make it a habit to arrive at least ten minutes early so that:
· You can make sure you are properly attired and your hair is “ballet-class-ready.”
· You have time to go to the restroom and/or get a drink.
If you arrive more than ten minutes after class has started, you may be asked to observe. If you need to leave early, please tell the teacher at the beginning of the class.
The dress code is not optional. If you are not dressed appropriately for your level – tights, correct leotard, shoes, and hair – you will be asked to observe.
Be attentive as the teacher demonstrates or gives corrections. Ballet class is not the time to chat with your friends.
When the teacher gives you or the class a correction, apply it immediately and try the movement again, rather than just nodding your head.
Asking a question about technique or to clarify a combination is okay, but asking too many questions and taking class time away from others is not. You can always ask to speak with your instructor one-on-one after class.
Please don’t bring gum, food, or drink into the classroom. Only water bottles are acceptable.
Respect the classroom equipment, including barres, mirrors, sound equipment, and any props, scenery, or costumes that may be in the area.
You share the studio with many others – please keep your clothes and belongings neatly together and clean up after yourself.
If you have an injury or other limitation, please inform the instructor at the beginning of class.
Slander and gossip are inappropriate in all circumstances.
